Mozilla Mumbai Community Meetup

Hello Fellas,

We had the first Mozilla Mumbai Community Meetup on 30th March,2014 at CCD Powai.
The passionate mozillians had gathered to share their ideas and brainstorm to build some future action plans to grow the community.

The meetup start at 12:00 noon and during the meetup we discussed about the core areas where the community needs to focus-

1. Different Issues -

- We need to conduct some lucrative events targeting different regions of Mumbai.
- Spread the word about mozilla community by creating different FSA group.
- Online Meetup needs to keep to have the updates about community.
- Physical meetup need to kept after one months.
- Learn from GDG and can take help from them and share the thoughts.
- Feedback loop and getting back to interested one is important.
- Swag at times for the mozillians can create problem,so for the same have an explicit request before time.
- As Mozilla is changing vendors for swags and big swags can have issues with customs.

2. How to Grow the Community?

- Create a form for FSA  and invite them for the events. In the form include the points like interested in which projects( Firefox OS, Localization, Webmaker, SuMo, FSA, WoMoz etc). When we will receive the feedback from the

interested one, we can redirect them to concerned irc channel links. From there, they can get a brief idea about the project and also a start up for it.
- Involve the developers and see their progress in leaderboards - Doc Sprint, Bug Fixing.
- Special interest group should redirect to correct concerned person.
- Currently, focus is on Firefox OS..so can keep Apps Day,MozBooth ,Localization Sprint of events.

3. What are the Future plans ?

- We have targeted some colleges as Atharva College of Engineering, K.J.Somaya, Father Agnel … to keep the future events.
- To "distribute the netowrk around the city" - keep introduction about Mozilla in the respective colleges.
- While organizing any event, pre-check the location, WiFi access and so on.
- Monthly meetup should be conducted either physical or online.
- Creating an etherpad for contacts for colleges - their number and email.
- Forward the link for the Final year projects - Mozilla Student Projects. - Yoric
- While organizing an event, give an introduction for FSA and create the respective group.
- Target to have Bug Sqashing, MozBootCamp, Apps Day week in IITB in next semester.
- Also discuss about the MozBird_MakerParty event which needs to organize in next month.
- Plan to keep some Hive Pop-up event in future.

MozMaker Mumbai

Hello Folks,

This is my immense pleasure to share my experience of another Mozilla's MozMaker_Mumbai event. It was schedule on 25th January,2014 in 'Xavier Institute of Engineering College',Mumbai. The event were plan in a very short span of time and were followed and finished with good flying colors.

The event flow was awesome as their were mostly first year engineering students who want to learn creation of webpages. They were not much familiar with the web languages. And this was really wonderful, teaching them through webmaker tool i.e. thimble.

The event started around 10:00 am by letting the students know about history of Mozilla and what exactly Mozilla is? followed by Mozilla global community and its different projects.I let the attendees to know the different platforms were they can contribute based on their interest and passion.
I gave a small introduction on localization, Firefox OS,SuMo,apps creation,FSA programme and many more.As i finished with the brief history of Mozilla, i started with my favourite topic of teaching them about webmaker tools.

I let the attendees know about web literacy and the power of open web through webmaker project.
I taught them about all the three webmaker tools(X-ray goggles, thimble and pop-corn maker).
Firstly, i started with X-ray goggles and explain how they can customize and remix any webpage. How they can create any funny remixes and publish it on web.

Further,i gone through the thimble tool and let them know who them can remix and create any webpage. As the students was mostly from first year, and unfamiliar with html and css,so i started with very basic of it in creation of webpage.I loved them teaching as they were also very enthusiastic and eager to learn. The interest of the students gives me more pleasure in teaching them through innovative way.I also shown them the demo, how they can remix any webpage.

After we create the web-page ..i came upon on 'pop-corn maker' tool. The student were very interested in learning the creation of video.I explain how they can create and remix any video, audio or images into cool mash-ups and can embed into other websites.

Really..it was very enchanting in teaching them as there were collaborative learning going on.
As,i finished with webmaker project..there comes the chance of another session ...yes fellas..'WoMOz Project'

At the end,i started with 'WoMoz Session'..The girls were very eager and curious to know about Women's in Mozilla.I gave them the example of 'Mitchell Baker' and very famous personalities from India also. They were curious to know more and it went on fly letting them familiar about WoMOz project.I explain about the different channels of communication, where they can get contacted and know much more in brief.

Later i also told them about http://www.whatcanidoformozilla.org/ website, where they can learn and explore much.i also let them know about different tutorials available on developer.org site.

As the session was just about  to end, when a mozillian from Mumbai reach 'Mr. Akshat'..He than took over a small demo and shown some mozilla's video.

Overall it was a great experience of conducting the very first Mozilla event in this college. I also have words with them, and they are also interested in keeping some further session on apps creation and hackathon.

Love you Mozilla..!!!

MozBird 2013

Hello Fellas,

This is my intense pleasure to introduce you with my first event “MozBird 2013as an organizer which is organized in Bhiwandi at "G.M.Momin Women's College" to empower women and her presence in FOSS world!

After attending different events organized in Pune, it is my pleasure to introduce such an event at my hometown and what could be better place than introducing it in a college from where I graduated. This event is purposely organized in a women's college in order to get more and more invitees for the WoMoz community. Bhiwandi is a place, where you may find many tech-savy peoples who when introduced to the FOSS world, may create wonders.
The event was divided in two slots. The morning slot  contains introductory topics to make the attendees familiar about the history of Mozilla, its goals and mission and different projects where they can contribute and become a part of this global community. I included all the  topics but my main focus was on Webmaker and WoMoz. I tried to make attendees familiar with different webmaker projects and tools. So in the first slot , i taught the participants about the different tools like x-ray goggles, thimble and pop-corn. I taught them how they can use the power of web. The attendees was totally new to the FOSS world and it was really surprising, to see alot of women are intrested for joining Mozilla Community.
So in the afternoon slot, I had conducted the hands-on session for the attendees  on Webmaker where, attendees created different projects using thimble. For me it was like an achievement . Later i came to my favourite topic “WoMoz”, i explained the attendees about the Womoz participation and how they can get involved into it. I explained them about “Firefox Student Ambassador Programme” and how they can show their contribution. This really gives me a pleasure of seeing women’s enthusiasm in FOSS world.

This was really a fruitful and enchanting event where women’s participation could be enhanced in Mozilla and FOSS world. At the end, all the attendees had rewarded with the swag and they all want to have such kind of Mozilla Events in future too.
